Summer nights ...
Something of an hiatus since the last blog because of Summer holidays, so a bit of a catch up is due!
To the Panter and Hall Art Gallery (27 Bury Street, St James) on 10 July to attend a reception for potential members arranged by Assistant Noorzaman Rashid at which around twenty prospective members of the Company had the opportunity to find out more about us while studying some interesting artworks including a large bronze female nude which was dominating the front of the showroom - proving conclusively that the female of the species is much more dangerous than the male because her outstretched arm was a hazard to navigation catching me at eyeball height every time I passed by.
On 11 July to the Summer Reception of the the MCA held in the Royal Aeronautical Club with Vince Cable as guest speaker - as always a stimulating change from the orthodox politician's "pitch". I'm pleased that the Company's relationship with the MCA has grown much stronger during this year and that we keep finding more "win-win" opportunities to collaborate following the excellent support that MCA was able to give us in support of the Pro-Bono Celebration Dinner.
To the venerable Cheshire Cheese on 24 July to greet new Freemen admitted, and Liveryman clothed, since the start of my year - it was also my chance to ask them for support on the broad agenda of the Company, and I'm delighted that all of those present agreed to put their shoulders to the wheel in various ways. Their contribution is already apparent in creating a more effective speakers programme and support for our recruitment activity.
August was quiet on the Livery front and presented the opportunity for a holiday which Melanie and I seized with both hands and spent two weeks swimming and reading on the island of Naxos - coming back refreshed and recharged (apart from the inevitable aeroplane-borne flu bug!) for the final few weeks of my year as Master, of which more anon!
