Paris’ seduction of Helen, the wife of Menelaus, King of Sparta – and his refusal to return her - was the cause of the Trojan War. RSVP TODAY - Younger Inter-livery Quiz Night - aimed at those aged between 20 & 45 (but if you're a thrillseeker come anyway...). Hosted by the Worshipful Company of Pewterers, held at Pewterers' Hall, EC2V 7DE. The main aim is to give those not on Court a chance to meet members of other Companies. On Tuesday 4th March. LAST REMINDER: The Worshipful Company of Poulters in collaboration with The Cook & The Butler are holding a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Races at Guildhall Yard, 4th March 2014. Fully-robed Masters, including our own, will run and toss around pancakes in the small Guildhall Yard area and similarly mad Livery races and parades begin at noon. The Clockmakers do the timing, the Musicians sing, the Gunmakers fire the starting pistol, and the Arbitrators do the judging. We can just turn up for this & be enthusiastic supporters. Let the Clerk know you're coming, so she can look out for you. Buy pancakes on the spot. NB: For lunch & networking in the Crypt Guildhall, Hot Poulters Soup & Fork Buffet Lunch from 1:30 pm. An evening with The Skinners' Company History Committee. "Trade and Plunder: The City, Skinners and the Lure of the East". By the end of the 1600s, Skinners were deeply involved in founding a new company as a direct rival to the East India Company. This lecture, by Dr Penny Carson and Past Master Hugh Carson, who both read Modern History and Politics at London University, charts Skinner involvement in the East India Company from the build up to its formation and through the turbulent century that followed. Monday 14th April: 5:30 to 8pm. Tea available from 5:30. Lecture at 6, followed by a short reception with a glass of wine. Cost £10. 2014 is the 350th Anniversary of the Royal Marines. As part of the celebrations, on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th June, the Massed Bands of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines will be joined by the Royal Netherland Marine Corps, the United States Marine Corps and a Ceremonial Guard to perform Beating Retreat on Horseguards Parade. Exclusive offer - until end-February - to Livery Companies to make block bookings. Tickets cost £22.30 for the premium seats.

Livery Shooting Day - Friday 13 June 2014. The Bakers are having a truly unique day of rifle shooting at the famous Bisley ranges - an absolute must, whether a serious shooter, occasional amateur or complete newcomer wanting a new experience. Organised by their IPM Colin 'if it moves, shoot it; if it doesn't, shoot it anyway' - Sach. 16 teams of 3 will compete for prizes and a cup for the best scores. PM Bob Garratt invites members to subscribe to an exciting new project. The designer of the iconic Olympic & Paralympic Cauldron, Thomas Heatherwick, will create a permanent external pavilion at the Museum of London, to house the prototype of the work, which rose into position to symbolise the start of the Games. Each of its petals was presented at the end to each country participating. The exhibition will create regular displays of the raising process. You can become a founding sponsor for £1,000, £5,000 or £10,000, be recognised permanently and attend the opening ceremony in the Summer.
