Faith in Government - The Faith and Belief initiative and its impact

You are invited to register for the next Faith group event, which will be held online. This is the first event after our Lambeth Palace Library gathering in June 2023, and we look forward to hearing the reflections of two eminent speakers on the theme of faith in government.   Booking is open only to Company Members who are logged in.  The || Register Now || button will be visible to the right when bookings can be made.

Our first speaker, Alison Baptiste CBE BEng, MSc, CEng, FICE, has extensive experience in both strategic leadership of projects and operational implementation.  She has 25 years’ experience in the water and environmental sector and, since 2018, has been Director of Project Delivery in Infrastructure and Projects Authority in the Cabinet Office where her portfolio covers Defence, Health, Education, Welfare, Home Office, Justice and Tax.

Alison has a corporate role as Executive Faith & Belief Champion for the Cabinet Office. Prior to joining Cabinet Office, Alison led strategy, investment and operational work in the Environment Agency when she was awarded a CBE for services to the environment in the 2019 New Year’s Honours.  She is active in her church, having recently moved as part of a church graft and she lives on the North Downs with her family and her dog.

Our second speaker, Peter King is the Director, Treasury Legal Advisers. In this role, he acts as general counsel to HM Treasury, leading a team of some 100 lawyers and providing senior level legal advice to ministers and senior officials in that department.

He is the Board level Faith and Belief Champion for HM Treasury and for the Government Legal Department.

Before his current appointment, Peter was a lawyer in private practice based in London between July 2008 and November 2017.  He specialised in corporate law, advising multinational companies primarily in the financial services industry.  He trained at Linklaters, where he qualified as a solicitor in 1983, and became a partner in that firm in 1990.  He was subsequently a partner at Shearman & Sterling (2003-2008) and Weil Gotshal & Manges (2008-2017).

Peter is also a trustee of various charities involved in faith, justice, music and education.
