Installation Ceremony & Celebration Dinner 2024

As we approach the start of the year in office for our new Master, Wardens and Court Assistants, please join us for an evening of ceremony and fellowship with a fine dinner including wines from our Company cellar.

The installation is the most important date in our Company's Livery Year and we all should witness and celebrate the "new beginning" and support our new Master and Court – and attending the Installation Dinner is the best way to do this!

The ceremony and celebration this year will take place in Ironmongers' Hall, the home of one of the Great Twelve Livery Companies with a history going back some 700 years. The current hall on Shaftesbury Place, Barbican, is the Company's third hall, built in 1925 in the neo-Tudor style. The Company’s first hall was built in 1457 in Fenchurch Street and was rebuilt in 1587 by Elias Jarman. Their second hall was built in 1745 on the same site as the first and was one of the few buildings to be bombed during World War I. The current hall survived the incendiary raids of December 1940, when heat melted window glass and roof materials, but the occupants used stirrup pumps to save the building. It is an amazing place for our evening.

Each year the new Master invites a special speaker to entertain us. This year, our guest will be Mr Richard Turfitt, Senior Traffic Commissioner for Great Britain and Traffic Commissioner for the East of England. Richard and his team of Traffic Commissioners and Deputy Traffic Commissioners are independent regulators for the goods vehicle and public service vehicle industries and their professional drivers. Collectively, they act as a non-departmental tribunal and licensing authority, sponsored by the Department for Transport. Their mission is to promote safe, fair, efficient and reliable passenger and goods transport through effective licensing and regulation of the commercial vehicle industries.

Fundamentally, we all depend on the Commissioners and we are sure Richard will have some interesting and direct comments on the relationships between Company and Charity Boards, and Management Consultants!

With such lovely surroundings and such an eminent speaker, this is a great opportunity to signal the start of the year for our new Master and Court, and for all Company Members to take the opportunity to catch up with friends old and new.
