​Everyone is talking about AI ....
... but how should we help our Charity Clients?

Are you tired of hearing about how AI does everything? But have you ever thought "does it -  can it - what are the issues?"  The ProBono Committee invites you to join this workshop to discuss the practicalities rather than the hype surrounding the use of AI in the NonProfit Sector.

The use of AI by charities is in its infancy with market surveys suggesting only 25% of UK charities have embraced its use. Those charities that are using AI are doing so for marketing and fundraising purposes. The use of AI is expected to take off in the next three years and be used for a wider range of applications. 

Our workshop will inform Company members of the present AI scene in the voluntary sector, the likely future areas of AI use, considerations around its management and the impact on governance. This will enable members to have an informed conversation with their charity clients in terms of where AI may fit in their strategy and the potential value for specific applications.

Subject to confirmation, we are holding the workshop in the Courtroom of Plaisterers' Hall, a venue that is perfect for an interactive session. We are therefore delighted to be joined by three speakers who will cover the practicalities and legal implications of using AI and will help us explore this whole area:

  • Paul Excell, from the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists, will describe their AI4C initiative and the practical knowledge now being shared amongst charities about their use of AI. He will also talk about the move from just using chatbots to the use of AI in data management and thoughts around the procurement of AI tools.
     
  • Tim Cook, from AI Confident, will talk about fostering a culture of innovation within organisations and giving charity leaders the confidence to take positive decisions on the use of AI. This will extend into the examination of value and the implications for strategy, workforce, service design, business processes, plans and the communities a charity serves. He will also offer guidance on the move from predictive to generative AI tools.
     
  • Alison Sadler, from Russell-Cooke, will focus on the development of an AI policy for charities, what trustees need to be informed about and engaged in and examine the potential risks of using AI. She will talk about the evolving regulatory framework and how the use of AI has implications for copyright and data protection laws.

This workshop will therefore give us all some clarity and help us in WCoMC's work supporting charities.

Please note that this event is "cash on the door" to cover the venue and food. Please bring £30 per person. Access to the Courtroom (TBC) is via the offices to the left of the main entrance.
