Virtual Wine Tasting - our second series: #2
Wines for Christmas Cheer!
At the time of setting up this event, we are looking at the possibility of more local lockdowns and of Christmas not being quite what we are used to. So join our Wine Club team for a pre-Christmas evening of fun and pairing suggestions to make your Christmas more enjoyable!
We have followed the form of our very first Virtual Tasting (back in May!) where we asked participants to visit their local supermarket and hunt down a selection of readily available wines which we paired to a variety of food dishes and snacks. However, for this event, we have turned this around and started with a typical Christmas menu and then drawn up a longlist of suitable wines to match the menu....
Christmas wines from your supermarket
Nip to your local Waitrose or visit www.waitrosecellar.com to purchase wines from this initial longlist, depending on your own food preferences. We will focus on four wines for the tasting. (PS: Waitrose offer a discount if you buy six bottles and they regularly apply individual discounts to selected wines which can cause stock-outs; this is beyond even our control!) We are focusing on traditional fare of Turkey, Ham and Christmas Pudding (or mince pies). We will also look at a vegetarian option and at wines that will pair with a typical light starter of smoked salmon (or maybe cheese sticks etc) and a main dish of goose.
Our longlist is:
Light Starter | Turkey | Ham | Christmas Pudding |
Cave de Lugny Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc de Blancs NV (£13.99) |
Le Sabbie dell'Etna Rosso (£12.99) |
Fleurie Beaujolais Henry Fessy (£15.49) |
Delicado Pedro Ximenez 'PX' Sherry (£16.49) |
Le Grand Ballon Sauvignon Blanc (£8.99) |
Domaine Lucien Muzard, Santenay Premier Cru Maladière (£21.49) |
Blason des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape (£22.99) |
Blandy's 10 Year Old Malmsey (£18.99) |
Register for this pre-dinner wine tasting and we will have discussions about each wine, how we all think the food and snacks pair, and discuss everyone's Christmas likes and dislikes. You can of course invite your "family bubble" as there is no charge for taking part. You just all need to huddle around your PC, smartphone or tablet. We will send the Zoom details to each registered participant closer to the date with some wine tasting and food pairing notes. If you were worrying, you will not need to cook a whole Christmas Feast for the tasting; we will be suggesting suitably equivalent "nibbly food" for the evening!
Enjoy - Merry Christmas!
