The Company at Common Hall
Our candidate, Fiona Adler, was elected Sheriff, alongside Alderman Andrew Parmley - an accomplished musician - who will be our organist at the Company's Annual Service on 18 September
In historic Guildhall, 24 June saw the meeting of Common Hall to conduct the important business of electing the next Sheriffs, as well as other ceremonial posts.
Common Hall is comprised of the Liverymen of the City, and when Guildhall is full the Old Library gets used for the overflow. There is always a buzz of greetings and conversations until the ceremonial begins. It is quite a pageant.
The Master processed in with the other Masters to seats at the front of the hall, and then the officers of the Corporation, the Aldermen, past Lord Mayors, and the current Sheriffs and Lord Mayor. The steady march of the City Marshall was very atmospheric!
Alderman Andrew Parmley was elected Sheriff together with Fiona Adler. Alderman Andrew Parmley is also an accomplished musician, and we are very fortunate that he has agreed to be our organist at the Company’s Annual Service on 18 September. We were delighted also that he was able to join us at our Celebration Dinner!
Fiona was a Company Guest at our Education Supper and the Master gave her his support in the election.
