Goodbye to Rio....

Our overseas Sports Correspondent dials in commentary....

There were many fears associated with the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games, but that merely served to ratchet up the British energy in an irreversible process.

Although the team of London 2012 laid down a huge gauntlet for this year's competitors, the British Rio team of 363 athletes exploded into life and brilliance, ending 16 days of competition with 67 medals, of which 27 were gold.

China, Number One Games Winner,  by comparison achieved a total of 70 medals, of which 26 were gold....!

Our Sports Correspondent obtained this photograph of Liveryman John Pulford in front of the Christ the Redeemer statue above Rio. He's clearly in reflective mood before competing.

John has subsequently confessed that the closest he got to Rio was a reception in the Brazilian Ambassador's residence in London to celebrate the Games. Digital photography did the rest….
