​Providing better support to charities

Many of our Members work with charities through our pro-bono consultancy and mentoring programmes or through their own role as trustees or volunteers.  We frequently find that these charities have common challenges in building a strong management infrastructure and ensuring long-term financial sustainability.  We are therefore delighted to bring two experts in this field to share their expertise with us, and therefore to help us enhance our own support:

•  Beth Clarke has been a trustee and employee at several charities, and is now leading a programme at the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) which is aimed at helping small charities to develop their resilience to ensure their long term survival and the continuation of the vital services that they provide. Through "CAF Resilience" ten small to medium sized charities across the UK have been receiving grant funding and bespoke advice and training.  Early lessons from the programme are emerging and CAF has recently released a report that shares the insights gained so far, including recommendations to funders.  Beth will present these initial findings and the plans for the next phase of the resilience programme.
•  Ian McLintock has worked widely in the charity sector and has been a Chair and CEO for several charities over the last 25 years.  At the end of his last appointment in 2016, he decided to bring this experience together to build the free Charity Excellence Framework, an online toolkit that enables charities to respond to the huge challenges faced today by increasing their impact, financial resources and performance.  More recently he has set up the Charity Sector Data Store which aggregates data input by charity leaders across the UK to provide an overview of performance.  Ian will give an overview of how we and our charity clients can access and make use of these valuable tools.

Following these presentations by Beth and Ian, there will be 45-60 minutes of open discussion for attendees to develop these ideas and perhaps extend them with examples from their own experience.

We will then have drinks and a buffet provided to enable informal discussion and networking to continue up to c9pm.  Please bring £20 to cover the costs of refreshments.
