Pro-Bono Workshop - Social Investment
Social Investment - the practical realities
Some 5 years ago, the government funded Big Society Capital to become a wholesale provider of funds so that lives could be improved through a better connection between investment and the work of charities and social enterprises.
Members, and particularly those who have undertaken mentoring roles, are invited to an evening session at the offices of Big Society Capital:
· to hear about and discuss the theory and practical reality of social investment and Big Society Capital’s work. This will provide an opportunity to find out more about this area which might be relevant to our individual pro bono initiatives and also to our wider work and connections; and
· to hear about the “GET INFORMED – Social Investment for Boards” campaign, the mentoring offer for charities and social enterprises. Resources are available for our own mentoring work, networks and clients.
The format for the evening will be:
5.30-6pm
- Coffee and an opportunity to meet some BSC staff
6pm-7.15pm
- Introduction to the event from WCoMC:
- Introduction to BSC, overview of social investment & examples of how social investment is delivering impact - Geetha Rabindrakumar (Head of Engagement, Big Society Capital)
- Overview of GET INFORMED Social Investment for Boards & mentoring offer – Big Society Capital
- An experience from a charity mentoring partner involved with GET INFORMED
- Questions & discussion
- Next steps including a follow up session in September to be open to both mentors/members & their charity clients / investors / fund managers with the aim of fostering the provision of mentoring as part of the “capital” injection
