12 Mentors mentoring....

Liveryman Steve Cant discusses the Pro Bono Committee's increasing client demand for Mentors....

On the run in to Christmas, 12 members of the Company gathered together in the City for a workshop on “Mentoring”.  Some of the 12 are experienced mentors and coaches and some would like to “put back” in this way.

The aim of the workshop was to enhance the Company’s ability to support the requests that the Pro Bono Committee receives for this type of help.  The numbers of requests are increasing and the Committee is keen to re-energise efforts in this area.  Leading the charge these days is Liveryman David Glassman but the workshop was fortunate to have Patrick Lavin in attendance.  Several years ago, Patrick ran a series of workshops for members on mentoring and he brought this considerable experience to bear for the benefit of attendees on the day.  The event was expertly presented and facilitated by Liveryman Gia Campari who, with David and others, will now refine the material used at the workshop to the point where it can be run for new and aspiring Mentors from within the Company’s ranks.

Steve Cant attended the workshop and had this to say. “I’d been hoping for such an event since joining the pro bono committee a couple of years ago.  The session was great, combining both theory and practise and providing new insights as well as some confirmation that some of us at least had been ‘doing it right’.  I’m sure that a polished version of the workshop will bring personal benefits to those members who want to get involved in mentoring and, perhaps more importantly, to those from charities that they end up mentoring.”
