Issue 41:  June 2017

Your Master's Voice...

It has been a wonderful summer so far. Let's hope we have more good weather. Talking about summer, we have postponed the Summer Ball to next year to relieve our diary of events.  Apologies to those thinking of coming.

On a brighter note - Well Done to WCOMC Go Karting Team;  we won the inter-livery Go Kart Grand Prix at Sandown Park! Thanks in particular to First Warden David Johnson for coordinating the Team and Paul Squire and his son Christian for leading the Team!

I'd also like to thank PM Calvert Markham for all of the wonderful work he is doing pulling together an Advisory Board to help accelerate our plans for creating a Management Consultancy Centre of Excellence.

Look out for our next big events which will include an Autumn Party on 21st September after the Annual Service.

Congratulations should also go to Kulbir Shergill my wife and Consort, who was elected as Co-Chair of the Past Mistresses Association for 2016/17 at Iron Bridge in June.

Court Elections will take place soon. There are three vacancies this year for Court Assistants. If you are interested in standing, please get in touch with me directly!

Noorzaman Rashid, Master

Is the motor finance market in 2017 heading in the same direction as the mortgage market in 2007...? The size of the markets are very different, but there are certainly a number of similarities, which should prompt firms to review the adequacy of their risk controls, and assess their exposure... Assistant Frank Brown refers us to published information on the current health of the motor finance sector, in the structurally similar markets of the US and UK - as what happens in the US today will often follow in Britain tomorrow....

Change is a force to be recognised and there can be significant organisational consequences if its impacts are not managed... Liveryman Simon Tayler-Smith explores the reasons why 70% of Change Management programmes fail....

Technology facilitated the whole do-it-yourself trend and the desire for personalised services.  Could these and other factors change what the Management Consulting /Accounting professions will eventually become...?  Shouldn't more of us be involved in reshaping what our profession becomes, to meet the demands of tomorrow...?  Freeman Rhonda Best plots the background and invites members to register their interest in the forthcoming roundtable discussion...

Go Kart win:  We went to the races and won the Cup! Management Consultants scorched the Daytona Circuit, raising record heat....

Famous children:  The daughter (aged 11) of Freeman Rachel  Whitehouse, is a chorister at St Alban's Cathedral.  Here she is singing on Radio 3, on 21 June, with the Abbey Girls' Choir
