Professional development in management consulting

The nature of management consulting has evolved hugely over the 50-60 years that it has been recognised as a profession.  Over this period, management consultants have had to maintain their traditional skills, but also learn new ones as new technologies impact the organisations of our clients.  This year we have two very experienced consultants reflecting on the importance of professionalism in management consulting: from a strategic perspective and from that of a building a high quality consulting business.

Peter Cheese had an extensive career in Accenture, leading several client-facing business units, including the global human capital and organisation consulting practice.  He is now the Chief Executive of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.  Peter will talk about professionalism and the shifting context around which professionalism is seen with the changing world of work, skills and careers, and even trust in business, all of which create a stronger need to recognise professionalism in the future.

Kieron White is a business transformation consultant and entrepreneur who worked at Pcubed and EY before founding his own consultancy company WCL in 2002.  This grew to employ 80 people with a turnover of £10m, being placed 12th in the Sunday Times fastest growing businesses, and specialising in the management of complex change programmes. Kieron will talk about his experience of growing WCL and how professional development and knowledge sharing played an essential role in developing the WCL brand and in attracting and retaining consultants.

We will also be welcoming Tamzen Isacsson who has recently taken up the role of CEO at the Management Consultancies Association. She will be commenting on professional development from the perspective of the MCA.

The evening will commence with a drinks reception on the deck of HQS Wellington, overlooking the Thames on a summer evening.  It will also include the presentation of the Satjit Cup to the Sea Cadet Officer who came top in the Officer Selection Board.
