The Mistress writes.... diary of May 2018...

May has been a very busy month: what with the installation of the new Bishop of London and a Garden Party….. to say nothing of a tea party and visits to other Livery Companies’ events.

Just to bore you – or keep you informed – the most amazing event in my estimation was the installation of Dame Sarah Mullally as Bishop of London. It was an awe inspiriting event – even though I’m not C of E. The music was well sung, the pomp was almost over done, but the event really encouraged me as a woman.

Mary Beard was quoted as saying that women will never get equality until the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, the Bishop of London and the Head of the BBC were women. Only one to go now! Is this man – after the event at St Paul’s Cathedral, feeling lonely?

This is a wet day – so I was excited when the sun shone for the Garden Party.

But getting there was not easythe queues that we’d been warned about turned out to be so long, that we were over an hour getting in to see Maria’s roses.

We met some familiar faces e.g. Chief Commoner and other Masters…

We ate dainty cakes, licked ice cream and drank water (no coffee available for me!)

All for this:

Actually the Master was very pleased to be presented to the Duke of Wessex, as he had presented the Livery with its Charter in 2008.   Who briefed whom?
